The Silver Heron Vanishes
A paddle-steamer casino drifting down a midnight river
The briefing
You step aboard the Delta Queen as she lies moored in fog. Captain Aldous Pryce has locked the gangway, and three crew members remain on board. He wants the Heron found quietly, before the morning papers and the licensing board hear of it.
The Silver Heron, a solid silver statuette and the Delta Queen's jackpot prize, was found gone at quarter past one in the morning, when the croupier went to present it to the winning table. Nobody saw it leave.
The suspects
- Ottilie Marsh, Head croupier
- Desmond Crane, Pit boss
