You arrive by launch as mist lifts off Lake Wren. Five campers and staff are still on the grounds, the camp director is pacing the jetty, and she wants answers before the closing ceremony begins.
The Founders' Cup, the silver trophy of the Lake Wren Midsummer Games, has vanished from its stand. The flag-raising crew found the stand empty at dawn, with only the velvet cushion left behind.
