How to play The Daily Case

Each day brings one new mystery with exactly one answer. Name the culprit, the place and the item in three tries.

Solving a case

  1. Read the case file

The file sets out the crime and where it happened, then lists three to five suspects, four places and four items. Any suspect, place and item could be the answer until the evidence rules them out.

  2. Question the suspects

Ask each suspect three things: where they were, what they saw, and what they know about the items. Their answers hold the clues, so read them closely.

  3. Work the deduction grid

The grid sets every suspect against every place and every item. Tap a square to mark yes or no and build up who could have done what. Your marks are saved with the case.

  4. Make your accusation

Choose a suspect, a place and an item. You get three tries, and a wrong one tells you how many of the three were right, but not which. When the case ends you get a result card to copy or share.

Common questions

Do I need an account to play?
No. Today’s case plays without one, and a guest’s progress stays on that device. Sign in with your email to keep your streak and stats across devices.
How does the streak work?
When you are signed in, solving each day’s case on the day it opens adds one to your streak. An unsolved case or a missed day starts it again. Archive cases and the Sunday case do not count.
When does a new case open?
At midnight where you are. Cases are made a week ahead, and each has exactly one answer.
What kind of mysteries are they?
Thefts, sabotage, disappearances and the occasional murder, told without gore. They are written for adults.
What is free, and what does membership add?
Today’s case and the last 7 days of cases are free. Membership adds the full archive and a hard Sunday case with five suspects, for $3.99 a month or $29 a year.
